Today I was a body guard. How funny is that?! A friend needed someone to stand by her side as she faced a very unfortunate situation today. She needed strength and she asked me...?! At first, I could wonder...we all could wonder why I was her first choice. I'm not sure I would make a good last choice for the job.
The plain truth is that she didn't really need a big person- she needed a big God.
I was just a friend who would pray with and for her. I was just a friend who would stand by her side- not because I'm strong, but because our God is.
Together we went into this unfortunate, uncomfortable, and maybe even a little scary situation knowing we could expect the unexpected and the impossible (for it to go well)- because nothing is impossible with God.
Luke 1:37 – “For nothing is impossible with God.” This is what the angel Gabriel said to Mary.
Mary knew about the promise of the Messiah- a Savior. She heard the stories and prophesies all of her life, but she never expected that she would be used to fulfill the promised birth of God’s own Son. God’s people knew through prophesy of the promised Messiah, yet many never expected a Savior to come in the way He did. Many expected a triumphant King, but never a newborn baby.

We know that Jesus was born. We’re fully aware of His birth this time of year, but are we expecting God to do the unexpected or the impossible through us, in us, and for us? Using Mary’s experience and the evidence of His birth alone, we can expect God to do all of that.
Your head knows God wants to and can do the impossible for His people corporately, but are you allowing your heart to expect it personally? Expect the unexpected…expect the impossible. Ask God to do for you the thing you want most from Him this Christmas. Hear the words given to Mary for yourself- “For nothing is impossible with God.”
I'm expecting the unexpected...the impossible. This is the mystery and the majesty of our God!
By the way...God answered every single prayer we prayed today before we stepped one foot into that uncomfortable situation. Later we were surprised at how well...how smoothly...everything went. Then suddenly we realized- why we were surprised...NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD! (Even a "body guard" is still learning this truth)
